Dogs know!

The clever boys

One of my English-speaking students told me that he has two dogs and they know the words, breakfast, lunch and dinner. When they hear these words spoken, they stare expectantly at their master. For this reason, when he and his wife are talking about meals, they use the Japanese words instead of English. Actually, his wife does not speak Japanese, but she knows these three words. So, when the dogs are around, the conversation between them goes something like this;
"Shall we go for hirugohan?"
"I'll cook bangohan."
Yes, the three appealing words in Japanese are "asagohan," "hirugohan," and "bangohan." They are smart dogs, so, in the future, maybe they will learn these Japanese words, too.
