Wisteria at Byōdōin

Wisteria at Byōdōin Temple

The design of the ¥10 coin

From the end of April to about the first week of May, wisteria flowers bloom very beautifully, following Sakura. My recommendation is the wisteria trellis at Byōdōin Temple. The flowers, which look like Maikos' hair ornaments, are in gorgeous bloom.

Byōdōin is still a very beautiful temple even after the wisteria season is over. It is used for the design of the 10 yen coin. Japan was an aristocratic society until the 11th century before the rise of the Samurai around the 12th. Byōdōin was built by one of the prosperous aristocrats. It is a temple that I always take guests from outside of Kyoto, regardless of the season.
