After her final exams in January, my youngest daughter got a job at a department store in Kyoto selling chocolates for Valentine's Day. Prior to that, she and other students attended an orientation at the store. The supervisor told them, "Put your front hair into the kerchief completely to avoid sanitary problems. Do you know that 10,000 hairs of ours fall out every day? Be careful!" My daughter was surprised because she had understood that 100 hairs would come out a day. So, she checked afterward, and found out that 100 hairs is the correct number, and an average Japanese has 100,000 hairs on the head. She shouted at home, "No way! if 10,000 hairs fell out a day, we'd be bald in 10 days!"
