Pinched watermelon

I don't have a green thumb, but a few times a year, I feel like gardening and planting seedlings. Several years ago, I learned that I can grow watermelons using an arch, so that I can keep the ground clear of fruits and leaves, and easier to walk on. My arch has a latticed part. But I was careless enough not to notice a fruit was growing in one of the square spaces. It has grown across the slats now, and it's too late for me to rescue it. I feel sorry for the melon. It must feel cramped. How can it keep growing from now on?
