150 years

Returning power from Samuai to the Emperor

In 1867, Japan's last Shogun, or Samurai top governor returned power to the Emperor at Nijo-jo Castle in Kyoto. With this event, the Samurai time that had lasted around 680 years from the 12th century finally ended. This year of 2017 is the 150th anniversary year of this restoration of the Imperial Rule.
The Samurai era is generally regarded as having ended a long time ago. But now that I have lived half a century, I feel 150 years is not very long. It is rather a surprising fact that Samurai people were still around only 150 years ago.
